Better Sounds Australia - Restoration Facts

The restoration process for musical instruments can seem to be a bit of a hidden magic.  The instrument goes in to be restored, and comes out looking and playing like a whole new instrument.  What happens inside the factory?  Is it really the same instrument?  (Believe us, many people doubt that some of our restored instruments are truly the same instrument...)

At Better Sounds Australia, we take pride in taking an honest and open approach with our customers.  We want you to understand what happens to your instrument, why we're doing it, what the result will be, and what your options are.

We have built up this series of restoration articles to provide some insight into the process, and to give you some background before you approach us with a restoration project.

Will a silver plate finish give a better sound than a lacquer finish?

If the lacquer is a poor quality and overly thick, then yes, the tone will be duller in sound. Here at Better Sounds, we pride ourselves on the quality of our lacquer finishes, and we believe that our lacquer finishes equal a silver plated finish for sound and tone quality.

Read on to understand how the finish affects the sound, and why a Better Sounds lacquer finish is as close as you will be to a silver plate finish with lacquer.
