Better Sounds Australia are opening up a brand new Trainee position, with intent to give full time employment for a Brass/Woodwind musician who is interested in a future working with musicial instruments. The training will be centred around surface finishing of musical instruments in metal, wood, and plastics. This is a craftsmanship opportunity, very hands on, not sitting behind a computer. The ideal applicant will require skill, an eye for detail, and the ability to focus for long periods of time. They will have a passion for the industry and the ability to problem solve and work in a team. The applicant must have good health and good physical strength (required for some aspects of the job, such as holding up a tuba for periods of time). The successful applicant will learn hand, mechanical and auto polishing procedures. Also chemical technology handling, stripping, cleaning and electroplating and spray lacquering procedures. The position will be rewarding with a high level of personal satisfaction. The first 3 months will be a probationary period, with award trainee wages commencing after that date. Unfortunately there is no actual apprenticeship for this type of musical instrument work available in this country, so no formal qualifications will be awarded. However, the experience here at Better Sounds will be as good as any repair or manufacturing factory in the world.
